The search for employment presents serious obstacles. These can be either caused by your own issues with yourself, such as low self-confidence, or outside factors like economic recession. The increasing number of graduates that floods the job market can also add to the challenge. In addition, having a degree or specialized training is not a guarantee that one will find work in a chosen profession.
Five Major Tips to Become an Effective Job Seeker
Who obtains the best job? Is it always the most qualified applicant?
The answer is "No." The Job often goes to the most effective job seeker.
- Be Organized. If you have lost a job or have been jobless for some time, it is easy to feel frustrated. It may even lead to depression. When I was jobless, I found it hard to talk about it around my friends. I was ashamed of myself. So, how do we counteract the feeling of hopelessness? Stay optimistic about finding one, stay focus and keep trying. Yes, you must make it your job to find a job, no matter how long it takes.
- Access the Hidden Job Market. Increase the size of your net by not only looking for a job in one place. Search for a job online. Sign up at legitimate websites that offer legitimate jobs. Take the initiative to contact companies even though they were not advertising. You can also ask your friends, family, and other associates to help you access the hidden job market.
- Be adaptable. To increase your chances of finding work, you must be adaptable. It is unlikely that you will find a job that has everything you hope for. You need to learn to be content with employment that is less than ideal. Being adaptable may also mean avoiding being prejudice against certain types of work. You may be a graduate of Business Administration however, perhaps you have to start as a rank-and-file employee.
- Produce an effective Resume. No matter what job you seek, especially if it is office-related, a well-prepared resume can be a great asset. A resume tell potential employers not only who you are but also what you have accomplished and why they need you. So how do we compile a good resume? Provide your full name, address, phone number and e-mail address. State your objective. List the education that you have received, highlighting any training skills that relate to the job you are seeking.
- Prepare Well for your Interviews. First off, preparation includes researching about the company you hope to work for. The more you know about the company, the better impression you will make during the interview. Your research will also help you determine whether the company really has the kind of work you want. Next, think about what to wear to the interview. Wear appropriate neat, clean clothing. Neat dress and grooming tell the prospective employer that you take good care of yourself and thus, most likely, you will take good care of your job. Remember as well not to be late. Be there 15 minutes earlier than the scheduled interview.
