Call Center Job Interview Tips
78How to Pass a Call Center Initial Interview
Outsourcing is the trend among large companies nowadays that's why more and more call centers have been emerging like mushrooms in Asia particularly in the Philippines. If you are a fresh graduate you might be thinking of applying at one of these BPO companies. As one of the call center agents for 3 years now, I have decided to write tips on passing the Call Center Application Screening process.
Here are my tips on to how to successfully pass the Initial Interview.
An initial interview can be done over the phone or in person. Usually, you will be asked by the interviewer some 3-5 questions about you.
Common Questions:
“Tell Me about Yourself”
At this point, the interviewer is looking at your resume, thus, there’s no need to repeat everything you wrote on your resume.
Tip: Give answers that would say more about your character as a person like…
“Basically, I’m the kind of person who enjoys working with different kinds of individual. I love variations and I can appreciate individuality. Working with different kinds of people has always been a challenging thing to me. And I like challenges. It keeps me going.”
Wrong Answer: Beginning the answer with “I am (insert name here) and I live in (insert address here). Meaning, stop telling what’s obviously written in your resume.
The Interviewer's Side
The interviewer will focus on questions that look for evidence of call center-related competencies or questions that would measure your capability to work with different kinds of individual or your customer service skills. You may be asked to give specific examples of when you have shown the required competency in your previous jobs.
More possible questions:
- How do you usually spend your weekends?
- Do you read books? If yes, what kind of books do you like?
- Why do you want to work in a call center?
- What do you know about our company?
More Tips: Being nervous is inevitable especially if it's your first time to apply for a job. But as much as possible don't show it. Smile at the interviewer every once in a while. A pleasant and sincere smile. Avoid being flirtatious.
After the Initial Interview, you will be transitioned to the next stage which is Assessment or Examination part. Then, if you get to pass the Exam you will be scheduled for a Final Interview.

On my next post I will cover tips on how to pass the next stages.

@ryankett: thanks. i have a different blog hosted by blogger. is it ok if some of my articles are found in there too?
@Mon - Hubpages penalises duplicate content, the best way that you could play that is to rewrite the article, then link some of your hubs to your blogger account and some of your blog posts to your hubpages account. If you duplicate content you could effect the search engine placement of both your hubs and your blog posts. Hope that helps, if you need anything else then just ask - I am your referrer by the way ;)
geezz, i didn't know man! thank you so much for letting me know. i'll edit my other post right away! wow, u just saved me from a mess. may u have a great day dude! :)
@Mon - How established is the blogger blog? I make 3 times the amount of money on hubpages than I do on any of my Blogger sites.... this site has real Google love. I tend to write hubs, then follow them up with short 200 word posts to my blogs, with backlinks to my hubs. This site is set up to pass over maximum pagerank to your individual hubpages, I have spent 2 years building blogs and dont yet have one above PageRank 2. I have a hub with a PageRank of 3..... search for 'Funny Facebook Status' and you will find one of my hubs in 2nd place, with a PageRank 3. You wouldnt even be able to comprehend how many page views I get to that hub per day, but lets just say that it is more than my 3 blogs put together. It only took me 3 months to get that page to 2nd place in Google..... and it has stayed there ever since. I tend to find that using my blogs to help build page rank to my hubs is the best strategy. In return, I normally link to my blogs, from my hubpages profile.... which now has a page rank of 4! I have had to take those links down whilst I switch hosting packages. To be short, I am getting 8000-9000 page views per day on hubpages from 248 posts. It would take a hell of a lot more blogger posts to achieve that, and years of my time! I published my first hub 8 months ago (10 months of inactivity), so thats pretty good going! This is a great place to write, so stick around, Ry. (although, I do have a conflict of interest, as you are my referral!, lol)
Sorry I meant Wordpress, I have two Wordpress blogs which I am switching hosting with of course! I have one blogger based blog. My hub detailing my overall strategy may help you, or it may confuse you, but here is how I optimise

That was written just 6 weeks ago when I had just hit 6000 page views per day.... I am still only halfway through that strategy... I hit 9000 page views in one day for the first time two weeks ago, and it hasnt dipped below 7000 in any 24 hour period since.
Sorry for the information overload (out of new 33 referrals this week, you were the only one worth encouraging, you find a lot of deadbeats and weirdos), but you should also consider bookmarking hubs with your referral link. I actually found you through an adwords campaign, which I got special one off permission to use.... but I now take 10% of your impressions, hubpages takes 30% instead of the usual 40% and you keep your 60%. Somebody, somewhere, is getting around 900 impressions a day just for signing me up! My referral impressions are not counted in that 9000 per day figure of course, but double the numbers and you get the point ;)
@Ryan, Wow! I was very skeptic about earning money through google adsense. My blog www.monzavenue.com on blogger.com has been up for more than a year now yet sad and funny to say, i have earned $9 only from adsense ever since i put up my blog. LOL
i will definitely take your advice and thank you for all the encouragement. i really need it as i badly need a second income. i've been doing article writing from freelancer.com and i'm not earning a lot. i can finish 4 articles a day which only earn me 2-3 per 300-500 word article. and i gotta sleep now, i've been online for 14 hours already.
appreciate your help and will be looking up on your site to get more info. thank you very much, Ryan!
Hi! Loved that one! This hub is clean and comprehensive. Do more hubs on that.

The job interview process itself is so stressful that it eliminates some competition. It is important for you to get past the fear and prepare properly for an interview.
After reading this I remembered my friend. Recently he was hired as a call center agent. He was pretty good in English and he also has good accent. He told me once about the question often asked in his past call center interviews. One is written above, tell me about yourself and other one is the interviewer would ask you what is your favorite movie and he/she will ask you how the story goes.
Call centers are the most in demand job today. Call center agents have well paying salaries that is why many people are also encourage to work on it.
Great tips! It's nice to read hubs about call centers here in the Philippines. A lot of people are really looking for this kind of stuff. I'm also from the call center and my first hub is also about call centers here in the Philippines.
